Supporting and Learning from each other!

FAQs

Where did this group come from?

This group started in April 2016 with two clients and myself. It quickly grew to 4 clients and we traveled all over! It was mostly the 5 of us for several years and then Covid happened! During Covid, we turned the group into a virtual experience. We played games together and shared many things from home - including our animals and favorite items. We also grew the group and several other behavior consultants and their clients joined us on Zoom. Then we slowly started to get back out into the world and now we are in full force again and have grown our small initial group into groups of 20/25 people for many of our outings! We still enjoy our small group for some of the outings. But have really enjoyed making new friends and growing as well.

Who can go on the outings?

Anyone can join our outings. There are several different age groups and in each section, the perimeters will be identified. Everyone is welcomed!

Do I have to have a behavior consultant through Supportive Behavior Services in order to attend?

No. You do not have to have an SBS behavior consultant. We just ask that if you have higher needs or require extra supports to manage yourself in the community, you need to bring someone with you who can help and support you as needed.

Do I need to let anyone know that I would like to join an outing?

There is a form to submit about joining the outings. This just helps us to know if anyone needs more information or transportation. Our group has grown so much that it is getting difficult to keep up with everyone and remember who needs what information! Hopefully, this website will help more people stay informed. Some outings will have a limited number of available spots. There is an RSVP form for those outings.

Does it cost anything?

Other than the cost of the outing, if there is one, there is no extra cost involved. We try to be mindful of costs for individuals and have free outings as well as some that have low costs. But, every once in a while, we do have some more expensive outings. We went to Beef and Boards this year and it was $72.50 per person.

What if there is something I would like to do that is not on the schedule?

By all means, speak up. If you have an idea, we would love to hear it. You can let me know at an outing, or send me a message! We love input from everyone!! It doesn’t always mean it’s going to make it on the outing schedule, but it will be put on the list of things we would like to do!!

Lastly … who am I?!?

My name is Mary McChesney. I have been a behavior consultant since 2009. Prior to that, I was a life skills teacher for a variety of ages (mostly 3-4th graders) for 13 years. I have really enjoyed growing this group and exploring the world with them.
